I had several ideas for this month's Twofer Card Challenge, which has a nautical theme. In the end, I decided to finish up this pair first, so that I did have something to show for.
I started my first card by stamping the shells from my Apple Blossom set onto a panel of Neenah desert storm and heat embossing it in white (SSS). The sentiment was heat embossed onto a scrap of vellum. To make the sentiment stand out from the background, I blended DOI on the back of the vellum and also added some water splatters to give it a more weathered look (which does not really show up in the photograph). Before adhering the sentiment strip using glue dots behind the text and a thin strip of double-sided tape at the right-hand side, I coloured in the shells using a Spectrum Noir clear shimmer pen. I also added a few splatters. To add a bit more interest, I then added some 'shading' using a gold Wink of Stella shimmer pen.
For my second card, I took one of the shell stamps to create a circle of yummie ice-creams. I stamped them in Archival black ink and coloured them in using Tombow markers and a watercolour brush. The sentiment is from an old Stampendous sentiment set.

I love these cards, Marianne! The friendship card you've created with the Desert Storm cardstock is wonderful - such a beachy feel and it takes me back to a long walk with my BFF down in Florida collecting shells along our way. Shading with the gold WoS was a great idea! And your second card is completely brilliant. Never in a million years would I have thought to use shells as ice cream cones! They look delicious in all their pretty pastel colors. I'm absolutely smitten with this card! Both are gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing your cards at the Twofer Challenge! Bev
ReplyDeleteBrilliant designs, Marianne! I love the white heat-embossed shells on the kraft with the gold shading and the treatment you gave that vellum sediment panel to make it look weathered! I'm so intrigued by how you ran the panel WITH that vellum strip through the machine with the stitched die! How did the vellum not wrinkle? It's like magic! And speaking of magic, how clever to turn seashells into delicious flavors of ice cream cones?!! I love the way your mind works! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #19! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteWauw!
Wauw! Veel liefs, Ineke😘
Very clever and lovely cards. I especially love the one with all the shells on kraft paper.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are gorgeous. But my favorite is those with embossed seashells. Thanks for sharing your work with us at Colour Crazy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful card that goes perfectly with the photo inspiration.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your twofer cards Marianne - white embossed shells on kraft gives a real sandy shore feel and the way you used the shell as an ice cream is just genius! Congratulations on your win :)
ReplyDeleteThe conches as ice-cream cones - what a clever move! That really is a fun card and kraft card is also an eye catcher.
