Winnie&Walter shaker card

Another post from me today, with yet another Christmas card. And a shaker card at that! Now, that's what I call a good start of the year LOL.

I started by cutting out a circle using one my new stitched circle dies (Simon Says Stamp) and then stamped the small moose from the Happy Christmas (Winnie&Walter) in Chocolate brown ink (PTI). For the background of the shaker, I applied Patel mint ink (Hero Arts) using a small dauber, making sure the colour was fading towards the top and also swiped the edges of the back panel with the same ink pad for a matching colour. On day 5 of the OCC CAS4 class, the teachers showed us even more useful and fun inking tricks.

For the shaker element, I heat embossed the Joy sentiment from The Big, the Bold and the Merry stamp set (Winnie&Walter) in gold (Ranger's) and filled up the shaker area with a mixture of sequins (Studio Calico and local bargain store) and some beads (local bargain store). Since I applied only one layer of foam tape, not all elements are shaking freely, but I don't mind, because I think it's fun if not all sequins and beads are towards the bottom, plus it's much easier to mail.

Winnie&Walter and OCC CAS4

The card below combines a technique shared during the curent Online Card Class, Clean and simple 4 (day 3), with 2 of the challenges over at the Winnie&Walter blog in honour of their first birthday.

I stamped a background using the wood ring stamp from the Winter Woodland set by W&W in HA Unicorn white pigment ink. After the ink had dried, I stamped over it using the tree from the same stamp set and two shades of green ink (Memento - Pistachio and Olive grove). At this point I was a little disappointed because the white pattern did not show up the way I had envisioned. But I decided to continue with what I had and stamped the sentiment in Memento Elderberry. I did not want to stamp the sentiment in either black or brown and when I was thinking about any other options, my eye fell on this dark purple colour, which was still in its original packaging. But boy, do I love this colour! I decided I needed something else to bring the card together and grabbed the deer stamp from the same stamp set and stamped it in the same elderberry ink. And then the magic happened... I love how the wood rings show up in the stamped deer image. After that, I trimmed the sides of my stamped panel and adhered it to my base card using foam tape, but not before I swiped my elderberry ink pad along the edge of the card.

Hooray! Another card and another blog post.!

As soon as I saw this card that Kristina Werner created for her Holiday Card Series 2014, I knew I wanted to create something similar. So here it is:

Since I didn't (yet) have the image stamps that Kristina was using, I looked for something similar and found these cute Xmas critters in the Tiddly Inks online store. I did manipulate the digital images to remove the black borders around the images. I decided to use my new Spectrum Noir colouring pencils, since water colouring these images still seemed too daunting. Colouring with colouring pencils and the white blender pencil turned out to be fairly easy and fun. I also like that each set contains 3 shades of each colour, so that there's no guess work involved. The sentiment stamp that both Kristina and I used is from a set by Simon Says Stamp.
